Sound bite: "The World Is My Oyster"

Hello everyone.

The sound bite you just heard, is the slogan that has been attached to me for many years.  I think that I’ve had a blessed life in which I have acquired many dear friends, had many wonderful experiences & travels, and overall have been very lucky.

Exactly two years ago  LOOKS AT WATCH  well, 2 years minus 37 minutes, my slogan became truly a reality.  I met Anne.

There are defining moments in every person’s life; moments where your life can change dramatically between one second and the next.  My defining moment can be identified by a single sound ...

Sound Bite:  "DING DONG"

... a doorbell .

When the doorbell at my house rang, at 10:30pm Thursday September 9, I had fallen asleep on the couch watching TV.  At that moment, I seriously debated not answering the door, but in the end I opened it.  There was Sue, who wanted to introduce her new friend Anne to her old friend Mark.  I’m glad I decided to open the door.

Our first date, which according to Anne was 12 days 18 hours 14 minutes and 43 seconds later, was 5 hours long and was the funniest and most enjoyable date I’ve ever had.  When I finally got home, my cheeks were hurting from smiling and laughing so much.

One of the first bits of humour that night was after the bottle of wine had arrived, and I asked Anne how she liked it.  She replied that in actual fact she couldn’t taste it very well, due to her mouth being frozen from a visit to the dentist.  With a completely straight face, I responded that I now understood why she’d been drooling so much of her wine since she’d arrived.  She was quite amused after the shock wore off.

Since then, our life has been just like our first date… a lot of drooling.

Anyway, there are some people I would like to thank:

bullet

My mother Doreen, to whom I owe so much.

bullet

Noelle L*****, Anne’s mother, who has given me such a priceless gift.

bullet

My sister and brother and their families.

bullet

My new family, Anne’s sister and brothers, with whom I am very proud to be associated.

bullet

Lucy and Case W***** and the rest of the W*****s, who have made me to feel very much a part of their family.

bullet

And last but certainly not least, my friends John, Allan, Debbie & Gary.

Also, I would like to say a special thanks to all the people that have traveled a long distance to be here today.  Your effort has added much happiness to this day for us.

Thank you.
