Anne & I went off to Europe to attend her brother's wedding.  We arrived in Frankfurt Germany, picked up a comical Mercedes mini-car, and headed off to:
bullet
Strasbourg France
bullet
Megève France
bullet
Interlaken Switzerland
bullet
Luzerne Switzerland

One thing I found so fascinating was the border crossings (or lack thereof).  With the EC in place, there are no border guards or customs stops to speak of, except for the Swiss of course.  You just drive through the old guard posts, which are boarded up and decaying.

France 2000 - 01a.jpg (164360 bytes) At Anne's family home: Charles, Anne, Agathe, Mark & Odile.
saphorin.jpg (73725 bytes) As we were driving past St. Saphorin, a small village along the coast of Lake Geneva on the Swiss side, I remembered some old friends that I hadn't talked to in 15+ years, so we just dropped in!  Needless to say it was quite a surprise.
Europe 2000 - 02.jpg (93732 bytes) This is the so-called Mercedes 'A' Class car.  In its defense, it does drive well and has a nice interior, but the outside...  Give me a break!  People were laughing and pointing as we drove around!
Europe 2000 - 05.jpg (102398 bytes) A dinner for some of Olivier's family, the night before his wedding to Carole, at a small alpine raclette restaurant in Megève.
Europe 2000 - 08.jpg (89474 bytes) Anne in her Giorgio Armani gown on the day of Olivier's wedding.  She looked (select one):
  1. Outstanding!
  2. Sexy!
  3. Sophisticated!
  4. Gorgeous!
  5. Did I mention Sexy?
  6. All of the above
Europe 2000 - 07.jpg (314304 bytes) The morning after the wedding, on the patio the Les Fermes de Marie Chalet Hotel in Megève. The view (off camera) of Mont-Blanc Mountain was stunning.
Europe 2000 - 06.jpg (284255 bytes) The view from the famous wooden bridge in Luzerne.  The bridge is decorated with extremely old historical paintings, many of which were damaged or destroyed in the 1940s (not sure of the accuracy of the date. if anyone knows, please email me).
Europe 2000 - 12.jpg (72607 bytes) Carole is walked down the aisle by her father.
Europe 2000 - 13.jpg (254823 bytes) Olivier's mother Noelle & and her brother Bernard.
