Commentary - October 1, 1997

B.C.'s New Democratic Party's continues its ongoing program to extract more and more money from the people of B.C., regardless of the consequences. The latest brainstorm being casinos, Club Keno machines in bars and most recently slot machines.

The benefits of allowing gambling to British Columbia are far outweighed by the problems that will be generated. In spite of overwhelming public antipathy, with no-one except big business, the criminal element, and the NDP government seeming to be in favour of gambling, the government continues to ram more and more of this garbage down our throats.

The city governments, starting with Surrey have declared war on the casinos, with plans to ban nearby street parking and frequent visits by fire marshals & municipal bylaw inspectors. "We will isolate the casino and do everything in our power to drive it out of the city." said the Surrey mayor.

One question you could help me with, Glen: How do we tell the difference between you and the now defunct Social Credit Party? You seem to have the same ambivalence regarding the opinions & well being of the people you're supposed to be serving.

GLEN CLARK: YOU WILL RESPECT THE PEOPLE. YOU WILL STOP NICKEL & DIMING US TO DEATH. OH, AND YOU'LL SHAVE YOUR MOUSTACHE OFF.
