Moe Sihota, the twice fired cabinet minister, has AGAIN been appointed to a cabinet
post by (the confused) Premier Glen Clark.
Vancouver Sun Editorial, October 22, 1998
As a lawyer, Mr. Sihota was found guilty of professional misconduct, having directed
two clients to invest in one of his father Bas's business ventures. That triggered
his first departure from cabinet in 1995.
As the new point man for the public service, he has on his curriculum vitae
criticisms from his own government's deputy minister, Doug McArthur in 1996, that Mr.
Sihota bullied bureaucrats -- and also exercised poor judgment -- regarding his energetic
attempts to help a limousine company partly owned by a friend and which employed a cousin.
Exit number 2.
It completely mystifies me why the NDP would re-appoint someone who has proven himself
to be lacking in morals and judgement; someone who has already been fired TWICE by the
same people that are now putting him back into cabinet.
Just one more in the long list of bewildering, besmusing and misbegotten decisions
exercised by our soon-to-be-forgotten provincial leaders (18% in the opinion polls and
falling fast).
